Depression is the leading cause of unproductive lifestyles, diminishing workforce, suicide rates, stress, and tension. According to WHO, over 300 million people of diverse backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles suffer from depression. Depression is an opposing force we need to address as soon as possible. Studies show that over 85% of people in middle-income countries or low-income countries receive no treatment for their depression. These issues are often caused by a lack of resources, a lack of trained psychologists, and the social stigma associated with mental health.

Common signs of depression are:

  • Exhaustion
  • Trouble with concentration
  • Feeling worthless and helpless
  • Hopelessness
  • Lack of sleep
  • Failing to stay consistent
  • Restlessness
  • Loss of interest
  • Overeating or appetite loss
  • Aches, pains, and headaches
  • Digestive problems
  • Sad, Anxious, or empty feelings
  • Suicidal thoughts

Today, with the upcoming generation, we need to take mental health seriously. 35% of Pakistan’s 200 million population is under 15 years old. While 64% of Pakistan’s population is aged under 30. Pakistan is a country of youth. Considering 64% of the country is aged under 30, we can safely assume that they are students.

Reading all of these stats and metrics on the internet my mind was blown away. About 85% of these children will be going through some sort of Depression and they will not be able to access the help they need.

I was one of those 85% children. Fortunately, I had Amal. This time, I’ll try to help these kids get the help they deserve and make Pakistan and its beautiful children happy again.
